Co-Teaching FAQ

What is co-teaching?

In a co-taught classroom, the students receive their instruction from two teachers. We plan our lessons together and discuss how we can best meet all of the students’ needs. Mrs. Kelly has the expertise for how to accommodate students with individual learning goals and Mrs. Roe has the knowledge about grade level expectations and differentiating material for all students.  We both administer assessments and make modifications when needed.  Co-teaching is like a marriage, we have to work hard and communicate continually.

Who is the main teacher?

We are both elementary teachers and will both provide whole-class instruction, lead small groups, and help all learners.  Mrs. Kelly is also a special education teacher and will work with students on their individualized education plans.

What are the benefits of being in a co-taught classroom?

Co-teaching allows all students to receive improved instruction and more individualized attention.  This includes students of all academic abilities.  With two teachers in the room, we are able to differentiate instruction to all learning levels, meet with students in smaller groups more frequently, and provide instruction in a variety of ways.

If I have a question or concern, which one of the teachers do I contact?

You may contact either one of us! If your question is specifically about an IEP then Mrs. Kelly is the teacher to contact.  Otherwise, we can both answer your questions.
